Jewish cemeteries

There are two Jewish cemeteries in Aschaffenburg – an older one far out-of-town at Erbig and a younger one in the city.

The cemetery at Erbig

The cemetery located far out-of-town was first mentioned in 1715. Nothing is known about its origin. The burial place was also used by surrounding Jewish communities, some of whom had to travel long distances to get there. The oldest gravestone still preserved today dates from 1735.

The cemetery is locked and accessible only with a guided tour. Since the access route is difficult and almost impassable, it is strongly recommended NOT to make your own way there.
